Lawn Fertilization & Plant Care in South Florida

Brown patches, thinning grass and struggling hedges do not always need the same treatment. A lawn may be dealing with insects, disease, a nutrient problem or watering and mowing conditions that keep it from recovering.

Lawn Fertilization and Turf Treatments

Fertilization helps support the nutritional needs of your grass. Extra Mile offers granular and liquid lawn fertilization, along with treatments selected for identified turf problems.

A useful recommendation considers the grass, the damage pattern, previous applications and the way the lawn is maintained. More fertilizer will not correct broken sprinkler coverage, mower damage or an untreated insect problem. We explain what the proposed treatment addresses and where other work may be needed.

Weed Control and Lawn Fungus Treatment

Weeds and lawn disease require different approaches. Extra Mile provides weed treatment, weed maintenance and lawn fungus treatment, with applications selected for the condition found.

Persistent moisture, uneven watering and mowing practices can contribute to recurring lawn problems. Treatment and maintenance need to work together; applying a product while the underlying conditions continue may limit improvement.

For help comparing common symptoms, read our Chinch Bugs or Lawn Fungus guide.

Chinch Bugs, Mole Crickets and Other Turf Pests

Chinch bugs, mole crickets and other turf pests can damage South Florida lawns. Brown grass alone does not identify the cause, because insect damage can resemble drought stress, disease or maintenance injury.

Extra Mile provides turf pest treatments, including services for chinch bugs and mole crickets. Tell us where the damage began, whether it is spreading and what you have noticed in the grass. Identifying the concern helps determine an appropriate treatment instead of applying the same product to every brown patch.

Hedge Care and Whitefly Treatment

Ficus, Clusia and Podocarpus hedges can develop thinning, discoloration or leaf loss for different reasons. Extra Mile offers fertilization, spray and treatment services for these hedges, along with care for other foliage and ornamental plants.

Whitefly services are available for susceptible hedges, trees, palms and ornamentals, including Ficus. Yellowing leaves, leaf drop or sooty (black sticky residue) are reasons to investigate, rather than proof of a particular pest. We consider the plant and the concern before recommending treatment.

Palm, Tree and Ornamental Plant Care

Our plant-care services include fertilization and treatments for palms, trees, Ficus trees, fruit trees, ornamental beds and potted plants. Depending on the plant and condition, service may involve feeding, foliar applications, pest or fungus treatment, root injections, soil conditioning and trunk applications.

These methods serve different purposes. We explain the proposed service so you understand what is being treated and why. Routine mowing, hedge trimming, sod installation and landscape construction are outside our treatment services.

Watering and Mowing Conditions That Affect Your Results

Professional treatments are one part of a healthy lawn. Even an appropriate fertilization or pest treatment cannot make a lawn look its best while excess water, poor sprinkler coverage or repeated mower damage continues. Addressing those conditions gives the grass a better opportunity to respond.

Extra Mile no longer provides sprinkler maintenance or irrigation repairs. The homeowner, property manager or irrigation contractor needs to arrange necessary sprinkler adjustments and repairs. Mowing concerns should be addressed with whoever maintains the lawn.

Too Much Water Can Work Against Your Lawn

More water is not always better. Overwatering can encourage shallow rooting, move nutrients beyond the root zone or off the property, and create conditions that favor some diseases and weeds. Uneven coverage may leave one area dry while another stays saturated.

Review watering after rainfall, watch for standing water and runoff, and have dry spots or uneven sprinkler coverage checked. Watering should reflect the lawn’s needs, weather, soil conditions and applicable local restrictions. Do not assume every zone needs the same run time.

Repeated Mower Tracks Can Keep Grass Thin

Mower traffic and repeated turns can damage turf and compact soil, especially when conditions are wet. If the same tracks or turning areas stay brown, those patterns need attention alongside any pest or nutritional treatment.

Ask your lawn-care provider to vary mowing routes, avoid wet or saturated areas, use gentle turns and maintain equipment and tire pressure according to the manufacturer’s guidance. An application does not repair continuing physical damage from mowing.

Dull Blades Can Leave Grass Looking Brown

Dull mower blades tear grass rather than cutting it cleanly. Frayed leaf tips can dry and discolor, leaving a lawn looking brown or hazy even when it has received treatment.

Keep mower blades sharp, use the appropriate cutting height for the turf and avoid cutting wet grass. If the grass tips look shredded after mowing, ask your mowing provider to check the equipment before assuming the lawn needs another application.

Treatment and Property Care Need to Work Together

We can discuss the symptoms you are seeing and explain the scope of our treatment. You or your maintenance providers will need to address irrigation faults, overwatering and mowing damage. If those issues continue, they can limit the lawn’s appearance and recovery despite treatment.

Why Homeowners Choose Extra Mile

Extra Mile was founded in 2011, but the family’s experience in pest and lawn care began well before the company did. Founder Claiton Pinto built his career in South Florida pest control by being a partner at another pest control company for 20 years and also gained lawn-care experience working on a country-club golf course. Today, the family remains actively involved in the business, from field service and customer care to sales and operations.

Homeowners choose Extra Mile for the combination of hands-on experience and personal service. You can talk with a real team, explain what has changed on the property and understand what a treatment is intended to address. We look at the lawn or plant problem in context instead of treating every brown patch the same way. And when watering, mowing or another maintenance issue is limiting the result, we will tell you what needs attention outside our treatment scope so the lawn has the best chance to improve.

Our team is built around responsive, personal communication and serves customers in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Yes. Extra Mile offers granular and liquid lawn fertilization, with recommendations based on the turf and its needs.

Can you treat lawn fungus, weeds and turf pests?

Yes. Our services include lawn fungus treatment, weed control and turf pest treatments. The suspected cause should be evaluated before treatment is selected.

Do you treat whiteflies on Ficus hedges?

Yes. Whitefly services are available for Ficus hedges and trees, as well as other susceptible ornamental plants, palms and trees.

Do you provide sprinkler maintenance or irrigation repairs?

No. Extra Mile no longer offers those services. Have sprinkler faults, uneven coverage or needed repairs addressed by your irrigation provider. Correct watering is important to the results of lawn treatment.

Can treatments fix damage from overwatering or mowing?

Treatments do not replace proper watering and mowing. Continuing overwatering, mower ruts or shredded grass tips can keep a lawn looking poor even when a pest or nutritional treatment is appropriate. Those causes need to be addressed separately.

Do you mow lawns, trim hedges or install sod?

No. Our lawn and plant services focus on fertilization and treatments. Arrange mowing, trimming, sod installation and landscape work with the appropriate provider.

Where do you provide lawn and plant care?
